Ohio Child Rescued in Tennessee After FBI and Murfreesboro Police Arrest Man Accused of Crossing State Lines for Rape Investigation

MURFREESBORO, TN — An 11-year-old from Ohio was safely recovered in Tennessee after federal and local investigators arrested a Murfreesboro man accused of raping the child and bringing them across state lines. Authorities say the case began with online contact and ended with a coordinated operation involving the FBI Nashville Field Office and Murfreesboro police.

Police identified the suspect as 26-year-old Dylan Osborne. Investigators say agents saw him make a sexual advance toward the child during a stakeout on Sunday, Oct. 25, then moved in under emergency circumstances and took him into custody. Officials say the child was recovered safely.

FBI Cleveland first alerted Tennessee investigators about the online contact

According to authorities, the FBI office in Cleveland first notified Nashville officials after Osborne allegedly tried to make sexual contact with the child online. Investigators say he then picked up the 11-year-old in Willard, Ohio, a town near Mansfield, before driving to Murfreesboro.

That interstate sequence is central to the case, because it links the Ohio contact to the Tennessee arrest. Officials have said Osborne allegedly brought the child across state lines, which is part of why federal investigators became involved. The timeline described by authorities places the online communication, pickup in Ohio, and recovery in Tennessee all within the same investigation.

Police say the arrest followed a stakeout and emergency entry into the apartment

Authorities say the arrest came after investigators watched Osborne during a stakeout on Oct. 25. The FBI and Murfreesboro police say they observed behavior that led them to believe a sexual advance was being made toward the child, prompting them to act immediately.

Officers then entered Osborne’s apartment under emergency circumstances and placed him in custody. Police have not publicly detailed the exact layout of the operation, but they said the response was urgent because of the child’s safety. The child was recovered without further incident, according to investigators.

Local detectives filed rape of a child charges as federal and Ohio cases remain possible

Osborne has been charged locally with rape of a child, and authorities say he could also face federal charges as well as charges in Ohio. The possible additional cases reflect the involvement of investigators in more than one jurisdiction and the alleged interstate nature of the conduct.

The criminal complaint, as described by police, centers on the allegation that Osborne sexually abused the child after bringing them from Ohio to Tennessee. Officials have not released further details about any additional evidence or whether other agencies are preparing separate filings, but they say the investigation remains active across state and federal lines.

Murfreesboro police relied on multiple units during the investigation

The Murfreesboro Police Department said several parts of its operation supported the case, including the Real Time Crime Center, license plate readers, the special victims’ unit and patrol officers. Those tools and personnel helped investigators track movements and coordinate with federal agents.

Police did not describe every piece of technology used, but the department’s account shows how the case drew on both surveillance tools and traditional field work. The involvement of the special victims’ unit suggests the investigation was handled by officers trained for sensitive crimes involving children, while patrol officers and the Real Time Crime Center helped with the immediate response.

Osborne remains jailed ahead of a November court date

Osborne is being held at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center, where bond was set at $100,000. A court hearing is scheduled for Nov. 30, giving the case an initial date for further proceedings in Rutherford County.

Authorities have not said whether prosecutors will seek to add charges before that hearing, but they have indicated that both state and federal options remain on the table. For now, the focus of the case is the rescue of the child, the arrest in Murfreesboro and the multi-agency investigation that moved from Ohio to Tennessee.
