FAIRFIELD, OH — Police are investigating a deadly shooting tied to a robbery at a Fairfield jewelry store after officers found a man dead inside the business on Tuesday afternoon.

Fairfield police said officers were called to Everest Jewels at 6679 Dixie Highway around 12:54 p.m. for a disturbance involving gunfire. When they arrived, they found a man dead inside the store. Detectives are treating the case as a robbery-homicide as they work to determine what happened before and during the shooting.

Family members later identified the victim to WLWT as Tara Sinchuri, the store owner.

Police respond to gunfire at Everest Jewels on Dixie Highway

The call brought officers to a busy stretch of Dixie Highway, where investigators spent Tuesday afternoon outside the jewelry store. WLWT crews at the scene saw several agencies gathered near the business as police secured the area and continued their inquiry.

A shattered store window was visible after the shooting, adding to the signs of a violent robbery that unfolded in broad daylight. Authorities have not released details about how the confrontation began or whether anything was taken from the store.

Police have also not publicly identified any suspects. The investigation remains active as detectives try to piece together the sequence of events.

Family members identify the victim as Tara Sinchuri

Extended family members told WLWT the man killed in the store was Tara Sinchuri, whom they described as the owner of Everest Jewels. They said he was a father of three and a Nepali immigrant.

The family also said Tuesday was the first day of a Nepalese Hindu festival, making the killing especially painful for relatives and the wider community. That detail was shared by family members speaking about Sinchuri after the shooting.

Police have not yet publicly confirmed the victim’s identity. For now, the identification comes from family members, while investigators continue working the case.

Detectives search for video and other leads near the store

Investigators were seen checking security cameras at nearby businesses as they searched for possible clues. That kind of canvassing can help detectives track movements before and after a shooting and may provide images of a suspect vehicle or people in the area.

Police have not said whether they believe the robbery was planned or whether the victim knew the shooter. They also have not released a description of any suspect or said how many people may have been involved.

At this stage, the investigation appears to be focused on surveillance footage, witness accounts and the physical scene inside the store.

What Fairfield police have said so far about the case

Authorities have confirmed only the broad outline of the case: a robbery at a jewelry store, gunfire, and one man found dead inside. Beyond that, Fairfield police have kept details limited while detectives continue their work.

The location, Everest Jewels at 6679 Dixie Highway, has become the center of a homicide investigation that is still unfolding. Police have not said what triggered the disturbance, how the shooting developed or whether a weapon has been recovered.

Because the case is active, investigators are asking the public to help fill in the gaps with any useful information.

Police ask anyone with information to contact Sgt. Bryan Carnes

Anyone who saw anything suspicious near the jewelry store, or who may have video or other information, is asked to contact Sgt. Bryan Carnes at 513-867-6005.

Police have not announced an arrest, and no suspect information has been released. As investigators continue reviewing evidence, tips from witnesses and nearby businesses could play a central role in identifying what led to the shooting.

The case remains under investigation as Fairfield police work to determine who was involved in the robbery and fatal attack.
